The very first words spoken on the very first episode of the greatest TV series of all time, Rod Serling’s The Twilight Zone, the Father of American Pop Culture, on October 2, 1959, not only introduced the concept of the series, but ushered America into the 1960s: “The Place is here..the time is now…and the journey into the shadows that we’re about to watch could be our journey…” Indeed.

Gearing up for my Twilight Zone in Brooklyn show this Tuesday nite at the coolest bar/restaurant/multimedia space, Fornino Park Slope, on Tuesday, July 3rd @ 7-10pm! It’s the eve of SyFy Channel’s bi-annual Twilight Zone Marathon (the other’s on New Year’s eve)—so instead of settling for severely-edited episodes without a host—come to Fornino’s and not only see five of the greatest episodes in pristine, unabridged versions, but LEARN a little something about the greatest television series of all time, that I call The Father of American Popular Culture!

Come to Fornino Park Slope as i introduce five of the greatest episodes of Rod Serling’s magnum opus, The Twilight Zone, as if you’re seeing them for the first time, under my “Five Themes of The Twilight Zone” rubric (for my complete essay on the subject, go to my site: http://www.arlenschumer.com/twilight-zone/the-five-themes-of-the-twilight-zone).

To add more to the trippy festivities, Fornino will be serving a special Twilight Zone-homage black & white menu (from Kahlua-and-cream cocktails to homemade black & white cookies), and stipulating all come dressed in black & white!

Tuesday, July 3rd @ 7-10pm; 256 Fifth Avenue, Brooklyn 718-399-8600; www.forninoparkslope.com

Reading from my coffeetable art book, Visions from The Twilight Zone (Chronicle Books, http://www.arlenschumer.com/twilight-zone/visions-from-the-twilight-zone), to my younger daughter Eden’s 3rd-grade class (she’s all the way on the left, front row) at Kings Highway Elementary, Westport, Ct, circa 2008. The book’s combination of simple, stark black & white images with dialogue & narration excerpts from the legendary TV series typeset to read like poetry makes the book flexible enough to appeal to readers/audiences of all ages!

So come to Brooklyn, to the coolest bar/restaurant/multimedia space, Fornino Park Slope, on Tuesday, July 3rd @ 7-10pm, and see spreads from my book projected behind me as i introduce five of the greatest episodes of Rod Serling’s magnum opus, The Twilight Zone, as if you’re seeing them for the first time, under my “Five Themes of The Twilight Zone” rubric (for my complete essay on the subject, go to my site: http://www.arlenschumer.com/twilight-zone/the-five-themes-of-the-twilight-zone).

…and my second Twilight-Zone-in-Brooklyn event was in February of ‘09, at a very cool Williamsburg bar/restaurant/multimedia space called Monkeytown, which had a giant, square back room (like the square theatre space at 59 E. 59 in NYC if you’ve ever been there) that their projection system projected on all four walls! (Sadly Monkeytown closed up a yr or so ago..sigh!)

The first time i was there in ‘08 it blew me away, so I arranged with the owner to time my evening with the February ‘09 NY Comicon at the Javits center (before it shifted to the fall in successive yrs), where i was also lecturing on The 50th Anniversary of The Twilight Zone (10/2/09). You can see pretty much see the same VisuaLecture I did at Monkeytown later that fall at the NY Times’ TimesCenter (on the exact day of the 50th anniversary) on my YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oA6Iv8Q0dPg&list=UUwkw6QB6OFKcfxK17macOlQ&index=2&feature=plcp

There are other Twilight Zone-centric videos on my YouTube channel, so check ‘em all out!

And come to Brooklyn, to the NEW coolest bar/restaurant/multimedia space, Fornino Park Slope, on Tuesday, July 3rd @ 7-10pm, and see me introduce five of the greatest episodes of Rod Serling’s magnum opus, The Twilight Zone, (as if) for the first time, under my “Five Themes of The Twilight Zone” rubric (for my complete essay on the subject, go to my site: http://www.arlenschumer.com/twilight-zone/the-five-themes-of-the-twilight-zone).

When I introduce five of the greatest Twilight Zone episodes under the umbrella title of “The Five Themes of The Twilight Zone” (read my essay at http://www.arlenschumer.com/twilight-zone/the-five-themes-of-the-twilight-zone), at the coolest bar/restaurant/multimedia space in Brooklyn, Fornino Park Slope, next Tuesday nite, July 3rd, it will not be the first time I’ve done one of my Twilight Zone presentations in the great borough—or in Park Slope itself!
This pic is from the summer of ‘07 at the Slope’s restaurant/multimedia space Tea Lounge, when I read TZ dialogue & narration excerpts from my coffeetable book, Visions from The Twilight Zone (see that and my other TZ works at: http://www.arlenschumer.com/twilight-zone), while a jazz-fusion band improvised instrumentals to Twilight Zone episodes playing on a big screen behind us! Spoken word poetry via creator and head writer Rod Serling!

That Magritte-like eyeball in space, the absolute very FIRST image I recall seeing as a child (!), from the spring 1963 opening of The Twilight Zone’s 4th network season (the one-hour episodes, only 2 of which are worth watching IMHO out of the 18 they did—“Death-Ship” and “On Thursday We Leave for Home”—before going back to the half-hour format for its 5th and final season in the fall of ‘63). Obviously my future was decided for me right there!
Because if you come to my upcoming “Five Themes of The Twilight Zone” mini-marathon of 5 of the greatest episodes representing the 5 thematic concerns of the legendary TV series, at the very cool bar/restaurant/multimedia space Fornino Park Slope in Brooklyn, Tuesday, July 3rd, from 7-10pm, you’ll see how that manifested in reality!
