A self-portrait for John Jennings’ BlacKirby exhibition catalog (where my Black Panther 4-pg feature & OBLAC—aka Marcus Garvey—portrait will appear). And a tip o’ the amulet to Steve Damm for first dubbing me “The Silver Age Sensei”!

INTERVIEWED IN DARK KNIGHT AP ARTICLE ON SALON! Writer Derrik J. Lang of the Associated Press interviewed me for a half-hour last Tuesday, and did an excellent job in maintaining not only the gist of what I talked about, but my very words themselves! I’m proud to be a part of this article! http://www.salon.com/2012/07/26/colo_massacre_casts_ugly_scar_on_batman_mythology/

…and here’s what i’ll be doing tomorrow:
3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
The Auteur Theory of Comics with Arlen Schumer
In this preview of his provocative presentation, based on his essay of the same name (http://comicbookinterviews.com/2012/03/article-the-auteur-theory-of-comics/), scheduled to be given at this year’s Comicon in San Diego, California, comic book historian and illustrator Schumer puts forth the idea that in the same way a movie director was declared the true author (“auteur” in French) of his films by French film critics in the 1950’s – not the screenwriter as was previously thought – so too should comic book artists who collaborate with writers be declared auteurs of their comic book stories.

I am no fool—but I will always gladly play the fool! That’s me last nite in my mixed-metaphor superhero garb (that’s my customized Superman-meets-Roman Centurion cape) at the ICON Illustrators’ Conference ballroom exhibiting my work for the first time! (Thanx to Joann Miller of Serbin Communications for the fabulous pic—might have to make it my new promotion piece!:)
